Quartermaster
I was a QM3/c, which was quartermaster third class. Quartermasters corrected charts, took time for the Navigator when he was shooting the stars. We worked on the bridge with the Officer Of the Deck who was conning the ship. In port we worked with the Officer of the deck at the gangway, also referred to as the quarter deck. We kept the ships log, from which the OOD would take notes and write a finished log which became part of the ships history. We also took barometer readings every hour, kind of clouds and the coverage and we did a lot of other things, nice clean job.
