Prince William Forest Park and the CCC
The CCC played a very important role in the establishment of our national park, Prince William Forest Park, which is located near Dumfries, VA. In this park CCC built 5 "Cabin Camps" (comprised of 180 wood and masonry structures), a large concrete dam, wooden truss vehicle bridge, hiking trails, and road improvements.
When the park was built it was known as Chopawamsic Recreational Demonstration Area (RDA). Across the U.S. the CCC constructed 46 RDAs in 24 states. Prince William Forest Park is one of the largest former RDA sites. Here were the following project numbers and CCC companies that worked on the park: SP-25 Company 2349, SP-22 Company 1374, and SP-26 Company 2383.
The local Potomac Chapter 13 of the NACCCA meets the second Saturday of every month at a local restaurant. Information on attending the meetings of Chapter 13 can be obtained by calling 703-590-5776.
