Daily Flight Servicing

27 Air School, Bloemspruit, Orange Free State, South Africa, 1942-1943.

Circa. 1942-43

Daily flight servicing , which apart from the usual things like checking oil, on radial engines the bottom spark plugs often "oil up" during overnight and must be removed and checked, while they are out, the engine is "hand turned" with the prop to eject any oil from these lower cylinders which if left in and the engine started could cause "hydraulic pressure" between piston and cylinder head, possibly resulting in bent connecting rods or cylinder heads blown off!!
