Hyman Haas with Captured Flag and Cap
Heeren Holland, Sept. 1944
That's me with the Nazi Flag. Didn't you recognize me? I look happy there don't I? Well I was close to a breakdown at that point. We had been going like hell since D-Day without a break. I must have weighed in at about 110 lbs. We experienced as much war as anyone and we were praying fervently that the war was almost over. At that point we thought we were on our way to Berlin. The picture was taken in Heeren Holland right on the Siegfried Line near Maastricht. We thought the line was empty. Immediately to come was AAchen. I don't know how I was able to go on, but I did.
