Biography of Benjamin Franklin Childers

CCC Man, Camp Harlan, Camp S-53, Putney, Harlan County, Kentucky

   My father Benjamin Franklin Childers was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Documentation from the National Personnel Records Center in Saint louis, Mo. revealed that he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps on 27 April 1933, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was at Fort Knox until arriving at Camp Harlan S-53, on 23 May 1933. He served there, renlisting on 1 October 1933 until his discharge on June 30, 1934. Camp S-53 was near Putney in Harlan County, Kentucky.

   He was a resident of Wheelwright, Floyd, Kentucky and passed away at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington on 10 November 1991.
