Biography of William Riley Kent

CCC Man, Unknown Company, Oregon

My brother William Riley Kent (Bill), born in April 1917 (24th or 26th) was in the C.C.C. about 1936, 1937, or 1938. Since I am 10 years younger than he I do have childhood memories.

Bill was in Oregon where they were having big forest fires. I think he was in the watch tower from the way he described the fires. He wrote about seeing the wildlife flee the fires and told us younger children about them and the "Big Swede" who were loggers. I remember most how much they ate and how they ate English Peas by pouring syrup over them and laying their knife on them and slurping off the knife.

Bill was a good story teller and cartoonist. If they had a paper I feel sure that he contributed to the paper, I don't remember.

I think some of his pay went to my parents, Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Kent in Greensboro, North Carolina.
