Biography of Raymond William Near
CCCMan, Enrollee, Flagstaff, Maine
Soldier, USA, WWII
I didn't know my husband until after World War II so can not tell you too much about him at the young age he was when he was in the CCCs. He told me about it and was stationed in Flagstaff, Maine. He also had an album and had taken a few pictures. One showed the fellows lined up in front of the Mess Hall for lunch and he had one leg stuck out showing that his pant leg had caught fire while fighting a forest fire.
His name is Raymond William Near and his address at that time was probably on or near Elm Street, New Haven. Connecticut. He died in February 1975. He wasn't as healthy after being in the Army for three years in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
