Uncompagre Plateau
The first time I heard about the CCC, I was bowhunting for Elk in the Uncompagre Plateau in western Colorado in 1974.Our guide, Jack Cassidy, whose mother was a Blackfoot Indian, told us that many of the trails we were using were originally blazed by the men of the CCC during Franklin Roosevelt's era. I'm not sure of the facts since at the time I had never heard of them, but as I remember, he mentioned the Corps was created by the government to create gainful employment during a time when jobs were scarce.
