Dances with the CCC
Dee Ringer, Machias, New York
I lived in Machias New York during the depression. I was known by my maiden name then, Doris Slocum. There was a CC Camp in Machias. There was also one in Centerville. All my girlfriends and I went to all the dances and parties we had for the boys too.
One of the CCC boys was Mickey Hursha from Newark, New Jersey. He was in the Centerville Camp. They always had dances and used to send the truck to pick us up. When I look back - them were the good old days. I still keep in touch with some of my school friends and we reminisce about "the good ole days". I lived in Westwood, New Jersey in 1938 and Mickey came to see me. He was one good guy.
