Comments: Hugh is known only from reference in the records of his children Patrick, Ellen and Hugh. Susan shows up on most of these documents and also appears with all of the above children in the 1860 Orange, Essex County, NJ U.S. Census. A Susan McCartney also marries a Martin Ronan (or Rowan) in Orange NJ (State and Church record, though State record says Carty which is error as it is taken from church record) in 1864 or so. Neither are present in any record index after that. Passenger lists into Philadelphia (supposed immigration point for James McCartney) do not reference a Susan McCartney. Need to check for Carlon since her stone says Carlon, maybe she used maiden name?? Susan Carlon's headstone clearly is in St Johns Cemetary West Orange and says she was wife of Hugh McCartner. It lies near stone of similar make to children of Patrick and Mary McCartney. Headstone does not mention Ronan or Rowan.
