F4U-U Corsairs of VMF-312 / VMA-312

The WR code on the Corsairs above identify them as being either from VMA-312 or VMF-312.  The Curator is not sure if this is the same unit or not, however both are designated as being in Korea in 1950 on ground station.  A veteran website refers to VMF-312 as the Checkerboard Squadron, which is clearly a reference to the cowl decoration seen here.  Later in the war this squadron flew from the U.S.S. Bataan, U.S.S. Sicily and U.S.S. Bairoko. Note the Black circle in sky behind aircraft is a marking on back of photo showing through and is not in the original photo.
