JUSTIN ORAL HISTORY CENTER Where History Is Made Stories are the world's memory banks. A good story tells you about the people, the time, the culture and its mores. It also entertains, informs, motivates or moves you. Even the seemingly silliest story has inherent value. My Father, James F. Justin - Jim - was a master of stories and loved to tell them and his family and friends loved to hear them. There wasn't an event he didn't have a story for. He had done many various things in his life and met many who had done the things he hadn't. He'd lived his life, and also listened to and remembered the stories of others. And he would tell them too you. He would give you knowledge and memories from events you never lived, lessons you could never have learned. Not long before he passed away he told me a story about a man he just met down by the river and talked with. A man with many stories, who had served in the war at sea and traveled to Russia. Another man similarly met told him all about his service on the USS United States, which happened to be being towed by the river that day. The man had served and he shared and my Dad and in turn I knew about this great ship we never set foot on, a piece of our national pride and history. Stories are our communal memory. Share yours here and enlarge our world. Read the stories of others here and gain the wisdom of lifetimes. Here to provide both an avenue to learn the stories of those who have lived history and to provide you the opportunity to tell your own, the Oral History Center is an online collection of pages devoted to the anecdotes, jokes, tall tales, personal histories and organizational histories of as many people as are willing to share them and in many different categories of history. Stories are gathered via e-mail from web browsers like yourself. The categories below indicate a general area of history. In each, as availaable, you will find the oral histories of persons who lived events within the category as related by them directly to the webmaster or by their loved ones or writings. In addition to personal stories, there will be histories of units or organizations relevant to the category. And beyond the factual there will be song lyrics and jokes and tall tales from the categories to provide insights into the area if not historical truth. Photographs will also be present in some instances as well as links to other related sites. So pick a category and explore history in it's own words or tell it in yours!
