Biography of Lee Butler

Marine, USS Valley Forge (CV-45), USMC, Korean War

I was a U.S. Marine, stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45, CVA-45, CVS-45) during the Korean War. Most Battleships and Aircraft Carriers carried a Marine Detachment as part of ship's company. It is my understanding the Marines no longer have the Marine Detachments aboard the ships...I know they discontinued the Sea Schools quite a few years ago.

After service life, I spent over 25 years as a news reporter and now, in my retirement years, am a free-lance writer.
