Home Made Cooking on the Farm for the CCC Boys

I was living in Holland, New York, between Colden, NY, on Lewis Road. The CCC worked cleaning up the woods behind our farm which we were renting.

My Mother served them Food and Coffee and made her home made pies and home made bread.

They did a fine job cleaning out the woods.

Curators Note: This location is Southeast of Buffallo and about 20 miles NNW of Machias New York. My Father, James F. Justin, worked in the Machias New York Camp with Company 1229. He told stories of being fed at a farmhouse by a nice lady who made great food. He also told stories of working in the woods clearing out fire lanes and other woods work. I can not help but wonder if this is not the farm he spoke of and the food and company which he enjoyed so much that 60 years later he still spoke so highly of it. My thanks to Mrs. Rice on behalf of my Dad and all the CCC boys she was so kind to.
