Biography of Watson Vaughn

367th Bomb Sqd., 306th Bomb Group, 8th AF, USAAF

My uncle, Watson Vaughn, was attached to the 91st Combat Wing, 367th Bomb Squadron, 306th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force at Turliegh England during WWII. His Bomber, "Rose of York" was Christened by Princess Elizabeth, now Queen of England, in July of 1944. I am having a 1/48th scale custom display model made for him.

George Roberts, the radioman on my uncle's B-17, "ROSE OF YORK", whose story is also herein, and my uncle flew together on several missions. (Author's note, the story of Ed Gregory, crew chief for the Rose of York, is also in this collection).

My Uncle hadn't talked too much about his combat experiences. He is a bit shy and plays down what he did. He was interviewed at the Palm Springs Air Museum for the archives. It became quite an emotional event, but I really do believe his tears finally gave him closure after 65 years.
