Biography of Leon Geoffrey
Supply Officer, USS William P. Biddle, US Navy
Just finished reading the autobiography posting of Norman Voltz (on this site). It sounds like his service on the Willie P coincided with my father’s who was Leon Geoffrey, the ship's supply officer. He, too, boarded for the final wartime crossing and stayed through Operation Magic Carpet and the final trip to Norfolk.
My father (and mother, Rose, while she was still living) attended a number of the ship's reunions and always came back excited to have seen the others and with tales of the heroism of the crew who saw action prior to when he served. Sadly he passed away in 2009, at the age of 91, unable to attend that year's reunion a few months later.
