Biography of John R. Van Til
CCCman, Company 673, Camp Wolverine, Petoskey, MI
I, John R. Van Til, was in the CCC from 1933-1934, Camp Wolverine (Near Petoskey), MI, Camp #673.
BURR, Turn up the stove! The hardest thing that I can remember is in '34' when the thermometers nearly shattered as me and the other guys experienced what is still today, "the coldest day and place in Michigan". Our camp was situated near Petoskey & Vanderbilt, MI, where the temperature dropped to -51' degrees! Nothing much was moving around in that kind of cold, but it finally warmed up the next day to -45'!. Some of the best memories of my life!
