Biography of Ferdinand C. Segna
CCC Company 1548, Camp Malta, McConnelsville, Ohio
My grandfather, Ferdinand C. Segna served as a Lt/Capt (not sure of rank) in a CCC Camp. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Jan. 1, 1919, I believe in the US Army Reserve Corps. I have his discharge from enlisted private in order to be commissioned at Ft. Gordon, GA. I have a photo of him in uniform. The photos I have include two from Ft. Knox from 1934 where I believe CCC Officers were sent for training. I also have a photo of my dad outside a barracks type building and at the base pool in Ft. Knox at this time.
The only photo I have of Co. 1548 is labeled "Camp Malta" from 1934 and identified on the back as located in McConnelsville, Ohio. From what little research I've done there seems to be some dispute as just where the camp was located in southeastern Ohio. It has been described as being in McConnelsville or Nelsonville, OH. Both are close to a number of Ohio State Parks, Blue Rock & Burr Oak, but I have not been able to pin down it's actual location. I know that at the time of the CCC Camps my grandfather had lost his grocery business during the depression and I'm sure this was one way to provide an income.
