Major Lester H. Barnhill

District Executive Officer

6th Inf., U.S.A.

 

          Born Uvalde, Texas, September 8, 1891. Attended Southwestern University, University of Texas and University of Missouri, A.B. degree obtained at University of Missouri.

         

          Entered army from civilian life through First Officers’ Training Camp, Leon Springs, Texas. Commissioned August 15, 1917. Was assigned to 21st Infantry, San Diego, California. Served with the 21st at that station; also served at Camp Kearney, California; Vancouver Barracks, Washington; Fort George Wright, Washington; Fort Seward, Alaska; Fort Liscum, Alaska; serving as Assistant Adjutant, Personnel Adjutant, Post Adjutant, and commanded various companies during that period. In 1921, the 21st Infantry became the 59th Infantry and later the 7th Infantry. Concluded Alaskan service in the 7th Infantry in November 1922. Also served with the 30th Infantry, Presidio of San Francisco. Commanded Company “F” and Company “G”, November 1922 to August 1924. Student, Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga., August 1924, to June, 1925. Adjutant General, 87th Division, Organized Reserves, New Orleans, La., June 1925, to July, 1927-Ninth Infantry, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Commanded Company “L” July, 1927 to August, 1929. Twenty-first Infantry, Schofield Barracks, Hawaiian Islands, August 1929, to August 1931. Commanded Company “I” and Company “M.” Acted as Assistant Adjutant General, Hawaiian Division, during part of this period. Assistant Professor Military Science and Tactics, University of Missouri, August 1931 to July 1935. Assigned to the 6th Infantry, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, July 1935, to present time; served as Sub-district Commander, Area Inspector and Assistant Executive in the Jefferson Barracks District. On duty as Executive Officer, Sparta CCC District, since February, 1937.
