Captain Ralph M. Dean
††††††††† Chaplain Dean was born in Eaton County, Michigan. While attending Alma College, Alma Michigan, in December, 1917, he enlisted in the
15th U.S. Cavalry and served throughout the World War with this
regiment. After graduation from college in 1921, he was ordained in the
Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1924 he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in
the Cavalry Reserve and assigned to the 319th Cavalry, promoted to
First Lieutenant in 1928, Captain in 1932. In 1935 he received an appointment
as Captain, Chaplainsí Reserve, in which service he is now serving.
††††††††† Chaplain Dean has served in the CCC, both as a Captain of Cavalry Reserve and as Chaplain. In 1934, he
commanded a casual CCC company at Camp Custer, Michigan. In the winter of 1935, he served with the V-1672nd
Company CCC at Camp Grant, Rockford, Ill. In April 1935, he took command of V-1674th
Company CCC, Camp Black Hawk SP-30 (Ill.), Rock Island, Illinois,
and moved that company to Decatur, Illinois, where he established Camp Lake
Decatur SP040 (Ill.).
††††††††† Following his appointment to the Chaplainsí Service,
December 1935, he was ordered to Headquarters Sparta CCC District where he has served continuously since that time.
